Visiting a Gaucho Ranch in the Argentine Pampas

We decided to take a trip to the Argentine Pampas and visit a Gaucho ranch - Estancia Santa Susana. It's a very tourist thing to do, but the whole family had lots of fun. Our visit started with Argentinian wine and empanadas. We then headed over to the horse field.

We took a 20 minute ride around the ranch where Mommy and our little guy shared this beautiful horse. This was his third horse ride, so he was very comfortable ... and super excited! Later we took a spin in a horse drawn wagon and followed with the asado or barbecue.

Towards the end of the meal, everyone was entertained with music and dance. For the dance, there was a mix of tango and Gaucho moves with Bolas, or small weights on cords.

The visit ended with a show out on the field. The Gauchos competed in a "joust-like" competition where each member galloped on a horse and tried to catch a small ring with a small stick. Each contestant received a little kiss for a lady in the audience.

  1. A gaucho ranch is an important piece of culture. It's also a fine spot for family and friends – with the lands grazed and the horses roam. And those horses are there for you to ride, which should add to the experience of touring that whole expanse of land. It's always welcome to know about more about these kinds of places. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
