Wandering Around Buenos Aires

We spent Sunday wandering around the various neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.

Plaza de Mayo

Our first stop was Casa Rosada, located in Plaza de Mayo. It's typically open to the public on weekends but for whatever reason it was closed the day we went.

Gran Cafe Tortoni

Just a few blocks from Plaza de Mayo is Gran Cafe Tortoni. It was recommended by one of my wife's friends. This cafe is a great place for a drink and some Dulce de Leche ice cream!

San Telmo

Next stop was the neighborhood of San Telmo. On Sunday's there's a busy outdoor market. It's also a place for street performers. Unfortunately, we got caught up in some rain. Even the little guy learned to use his own umbrella.

Recoleta

A visit to Buenos Aires wouldn't be complete without going to Recoleta. The famous Recoleta cemetery is found in this neighborhood.

It contains the tombs of many famous Argentiniens including Eva Peron, better known as Evita.

Here are some details of her on the tomb.

Of course our son thought the cemetery was a great place for hide and seek!

This place is just amazing to explore.

Basilica del Nuestra SeƱora del Pilar

Built in 1732, this Basilica is located next to the cemetery. It's a national historic monument.

Walking back to the hotel

Retiro railway terminal is one of the busiest railway stations in Argentina.

Located in Plaza Fueza Aerea, you'll find Torre Monumental. This was a gift from the British to the city.

Lastly. a view of the area from our hotel.
