The Old Town of Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius is the capital and largest city in Lithuania. Its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In October we spent a long weekend exploring the old town and it's surroundings.

Didzioji Street is one of the oldest roads in the town center. There are plenty of restaurants, coffee bars, and small shops along the street. Our hotel, the Narutis Hotel, was located close by on Pilies Steeet. We highly recommend staying there. It's located in a charming building and has an amazing breakfast!

Throughout Vilnius you'll find lots of amazing architecture such as the Basilian Gates.

Gediminas Avenue connects the historic center to many other famous squares. You'll find lots of high end stores and restaurants here.

Gediminas Tower can be spotted from most places in town. This tower is part of the old city castle.

Cathedral Square is one of the city's main squares and connects the old town to the modern part.  Here you'll find the Cathedral of St. Stanislav and St. Vladislav and Gedimanas Bell Tower. We highly recommend climbing up the Bell tower to catch great 360 degree views of the city.

Cathedral of St. Stanislav and St. Vladislav is the main place of worship for Lithuania's Catholics.

On one end of the old town, we found parts of the castle walls.

St. Anne and Bernardine Church. The church of St. Anne. It hasn't changed in over 500 years.

Uzupis is a neighborhood near St. Anne and Bernardine Church. It's considered to be a "republic" of artists and has it's own constitution and president.

There are lots of playgrounds for the kiddos. Much of the equipment is unique compared to other places we've been. The best and largest playground we found was in Bernardine Garden.

Travelers Tip:

A great local restaurant to try Lokus Restaurant Steakhouse (www.lokys.lt). Located in the center of the old town, it has a great menu and rustic decor on the ground floor.
